In 2013, Arbor Green Landscapes won the bid to install a rooftop container garden at the historic landmark Kennedy-Warren apartment house in Washington, DC. The Art Deco complex owned by the B.F. Saul Company was built in 1931 on Connecticut Avenue NW in Cleveland Park next to the National Zoo.
High-quality fiberglass planters were sourced from a U.K.-based company are carried to the roof by elevator, as were all plants, soil and soil amendments. Tough plants were selected to survive the full-sun and high-wind conditions.
The roof garden is a popular new amenity for residents of the apartment complex.
